At Strawberry Fields Cottage, we see each child as a unique individual with all of the tools to become a successful, competent and capable learner. It is our role as educators to facilitate their learning by providing endless opportunities for self-guided discovery and contribution towards the learning of their peers.
We understand that a nurturing play environment is central to every child’s learning and development. By providing a play environment that responds to children’s individual interests, we are able to guide the development of their unique skills and personalities.
As educators, it is our responsibility to guide moral judgements and ethical decision making. We practice this by empowering children to make eco-conscious choices and act with empathy towards the people around them. Whether it be forging friendships, learning to share, recycle, or contributing to our lively garden, we encourage children to act with empathy for the rewards of having a loving community and healthy, sustainable environment.
We respect that each child comes from families with diverse cultural backgrounds, and embrace difference as a critical element of community building. We take the lead in initiating communication between families and community members, and consider every contribution to be valuable in creating an open and inclusive service.
As a team of passionate educators, we recognise that true professionalism is maintained through a consistent reflection of everyday practices, and open listening with all of our peers. Our different skills, strengths, and experiences all contribute towards our shared vision of giving children a place to learn, explore, embrace creativity, and express ideas.
